Beyond this, he shows off some Supreme items as well, yelling into their burner phone and eating some of the red Oreos that the brand released earlier this year. While others struggled, Dex clearly didn’t consider he had boxes on top of boxes of these shoes all on display, making fans jealous of his connections without a doubt. Finally, we’re transported to a room full of the latest Travis Scott Nike Air Max collaboration that was so tough for people to get. As Dex smokes a blunt, carries a double cup, and plays around with his gun, he dances and recites his lines in an around both vehicles, flexing as he does best. This shot happens inside of a parking garage in front of a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. A quick cut scene takes us from the makeshift hallway to a provisional streetscape for a split second before we’re introduced to one of the only real settings. There seems to be a colorful shadow by his side that leaves his body and comes back together with it during certain moments, providing him with this neon aura that simply exudes energy from the young phenom. Opening in a makeshift black and white hallway that is clearly a setting created with a green screen, Dex is spitting his bars while cartoonish items float around him as he speaks about them in his lyrics. Luckily, there’s a music video that comes to us courtesy of director LOUIEKNOWS, and it uses many animations and other effects that are reminiscent of the effects our very own Cole Bennett helped bring to life and popularize throughout his early work with Dex. In all honesty, his lyrics aren’t overly impressive and they’re not going to blow anyone away, he keeps reoccurring topics alive through his vigor as he mentions things like women, drugs, and guns, along with some novelty bars about Coronavirus and things of that nature. There are a few beat breakdowns throughout that seem to throw Dex’s rhythm off ever so slightly, but when the drums come back in to set the tempo, he picks up right where he left off. While a lot of his words are somewhat slurred together and can be hard to understand during certain stretches, a lot of the cadences he uses boast a new, more artistic side of himself that can be forgotten in his overflow of energetic offerings. This begins right off the bat as he kind of hollers into the microphone before providing us with the trademark catchphrase that he uses to begin virtually every song.Īs he begins spitting his lyrics, however, he tones down his enthusiasm just a bit in order to showcase some out of the box flows that we don’t typically get from Dex. ![]() This instrumental seems a bit calmer than something the Chicago icon would typically rap over, but it definitely bumps and gives Dex a solid foundation to deliver his telltale energetic bars. The production on this single is built through ambient, spacey synths, clean and somewhat normalized percussion, and rhythmic drums that really make the beat ride out. ![]() While I haven’t kept up with many of his most recent moves, in all honesty, I saw that he was back with a brand-new track entitled “Like U Know Me” and I had to tune in, for nostalgia’s sake if nothing else. It almost comes off as if he turns on a microphone and just messes around in the studio, but many of his songs actually come together and turn out to be complete bangers. ![]() For me, he was one of the first underground artists I listened to because his personality was always wild and super zealous, he kept his songs fun and energetic, and his sound was just unlike many other artists in the music industry. ![]() Within the Chicago division of this industry, Famous Dex has always been a name that rings a bell and means a lot to many fans of the genre. I was first introduced to the underground Rap scene in Chicago before being put on to other up and coming artists all over the world.
